Moroccan south discovery through Tizi N'Test 7 Days / 6 nights

This 7 days itinerary will take you not only to discover the capital of Saffron in Taliouine, the carperts handicrafts in Tazenakht, the bigest Sahara dunes of Chegaga, through the Tizi N’Test pass 2090m high but also the golden dunes of Merzouga, Todra gorges and the colorful rose valley, Ait benhaddou village and the African Hollywood Ouarzazate.

Day 1: Marrakech - Taroudant - Tiout

Departure in front of your hotel or riad in Marrakech towards Asni, Ouirgane by a snacky road, we cross the mountain ranges of the High Atlas by the Tizi N'Test 2090m, we visit the Tinmel mosque, one of 2 mosques open for non-Muslims throughout the Moroccan Kingdom, lunch will be on the road, we continue to Taroudant, called small Marrakech with its ramparts, doors and souks. Break to visit the souks and then we continue to Tiout palm grove where we spend the night in a hostel, you can visit the local cooperative of Argan oil, diner and night.

Day 2: Tiout – Tazenakht – Foum Zguid - Erg Chegaga

Breakfast, then departure to the capital of saffron gathering which takes place between mid-October and mid-November, this small fragile bulb that is used in pharmaceutical, food or cosmetic, is the pride of the inhabitants of the city. We cross the Anti Atlas Tazenakht City, the capital of Ait Ouaouzaguit carpets and then the village of Foum-Zguid for lunch at a local restaurant before joining the Iriki lake, fully drained and Chegaga dunes by a track of Reg( deserted stones). Dinner and night in a nomad camp under tents.

Day 3: Erg Chegaga – Mhamid – Zagora

After breakfast, we get the 4x4 to continue to Zagora through the dunes and Foum Takat track to cross the Bani moutain, and reach M'hamid, the last village and the limit of the road and the Moroccan civilisation, stop for lunch in the restaurant at the crossroads of the caravans. In the afternoon, we continue to Zaouia of Tamgrout founded in XVI century by Ahmed Ali Ansari. Nasir Mohamed Ibn founded the Koranic school of Tamgrout and its famous library, the latter has a collection to nearly 4,000 books on subjects as diverse as Islamic law, astrology, medicine, history, poetry and on the theology and interpretations of the Koran, the oldest manuscripts, written on gazelle skin, date from the XI century. We'll have a guided visit walking in the village of potters before heading to Zagora, dinner and overnight stay in the Riad Salam Zagora.

Day 4: Zagora – Tazzarine – Rissani – Merzouga

During the morning around 8 a.m, crossing the Draa valley in the village of Benizoli to start a reg track (deserted stone) of 80 km via Touna N'Iaârabn and isolated villages of Ait Atta to achieve Tazarine, we will discover rock engravings of Ait Ouaâzik, continuation to Alnif for lunch at a local restaurant. After noon, we arrive at Rissani, the first imperial city of the country, known by the mausoleum and door of Moulay Ali Cherif, founder of the Alawite dynasty that reigns in Morocco. We crosse the Erg Chebbi by a trail of 7 km to reach the hostel located in the foot of the dunes, 4WD exchange against camels to cross the dunes at sunset and arrive at the oasis where the camp, dinner and overnight at the camp in nomadic tents.

Day 5: Merzouga – Erfoud – Tinghir – Todgha gorges - Dades gorges

Early morning wake up for an unforgettable event, sunrise on the large dune followed by a nomadic breakfast, return to the hostel by camels to take shower and meet the driver and. Departure to Erfoud through the track, we discover deposits of fossils around the hills of the erg Chebbi. We leave the Tafilalt oasis by the typical village of Jorf and the old underground system of irrigation called Khoutarat to reach Tinghir palm grove we climb into the gorges at 12 km for lunch in the heart of the canyons of 300 m in height, appreciated by those of mountaineering. After lunch, possibility to make a hike of 40 minutes from the exit of the canyons to the source of sacred fish, we get to the Dades Gorge around 5 p.m, dinner and overnight at kasbah de la vallee hotel.

Day 6: Dades Gorges - Skoura - Ouarzazate

After breakfast, we descend through the Dades Valley to the village of Ait Youl, ideal satrt pointfor hiking in the area, to take a deserted track to the village of Boutaghar and rose valley, a wonderful place for people who love colors and contrast, with its panoramic views from the red mountains to the green valley of roses. We will have achance to attend the nomads who live in caves and are practice transhumance across the Mgoun massive. We arrive Kelaa Mgouna, city or roses where the festival of roses takes place each year, we continue to the fascinating Skoura palm grove for lunch with the inhabitants at the Kasbah of Ait abou, located in the heart of the palm grove. In the afternoon arrival in Ouarzazate, dinner and overnight at Riad Salam hotel or similar.

Day 7: Ouarzazate - Fint oasis - Ait Benhaddou - Marrakech

Departure from the hotel to Fint oasis, a track of 12 km on a rocky landscape in the Anti Atlas, we will take a walk of 30 minutes along the valley to arrive at the house of chief of the village who welcomes us with tea, we will discover the typical life style of southern Morocco. After that, we continue to the Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, listed the site by the UNESCO World Heritage, visit this natural decor used by many film productions, and then lunch at a local restaurant in the new village. In the afternoon, we head to Marrakech by the Tizi N'Tichka pass.
